I am Afnan Mohammad, grew up in the most densely populated city in the world, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Friends call me Akib. I like to hang around with friends, watch movies, play Cricket as sports, and enjoy every sporting event. I am very excited to join the MsEP program in the upcoming Fall of 2021 and begin my journey at USU. I am interested in researching urban parks, environmental conditions, public participation in planning, transit-oriented development, transport planning, and Environmental improvement-related areas.
Academic Profile: My country lacks good governance practices, knowledge of resource efficiency and energy planning, and knowledge of sustainable solutions at all planning phases. This situation encouraged me to take this challenge to find possible solutions and as an undergraduate student of Urban and Rural Planning at Khulna University where I had exposure to a wide variety of environmental studies, urban planning, rural planning, transport planning, GIS, and Remote Sensing. After that, I specialized in GIS in my master’s studies at Jahangirnagar University.
Professional Profile: I have started my career in the Bus Rapid Transit project under the Greater Dhaka Sustainable Urban Transport Project where I had to investigate the accessibility of three major BRT stations. I also worked in a consultancy firm as an Urban Planner & GIS Analyst for doing a City Master plan for Regional development. Currently, I am working as an Assistant Program Officer (Environment & NRM) in a project named ‘Sustainable Enterprise Project’ and I provide sustainable solutions for enterprise development, mitigating measures for environmental pollution, and prepare environmental guidelines.
